Project Safe Shore

Dedication. Community. Passion.

The Leadership Program, hosted by the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce, is a 10-month initiative designed to cultivate future community leaders. Participants engage in an immersive experience, exploring southern Beaufort County's culture, economy, government, education, and social dynamics. The program also emphasizes community.

In light of the tragic loss of two lives due to rip currents on Hilton Head Island in August 2024, the Leadership Class of 2025 is spearheading the Safe Shore project. This program aims to improve beach safety for everyone by equipping the community with knowledge on how to identify and respond to rip currents through educational signage, printed resources, and collaborations with local businesses.

The mission of the Safe Shore project is to enhance rip current awareness for the safety of our residents and visitors through signage and education.

Our Vision

The Safe Shore project aims to make Hilton Head Island a leader in rip current safety, where every resident and visitor is equipped with the knowledge and confidence to recognize, avoid, and respond to rip currents. Through fostering a culture of preparedness, we aim to reduce rip current incidents and save lives, making our beaches a model for coastal safety.
